Pediatric and Family Care

CalvertHealth provides many programs and services for families and children. Some bring specialized pediatric care closer to home. Others make the hospital experience a lot less traumatic. At every step, we encourage parents to be involved - to ask questions and share their concerns.

Pediatric Hospitalists
CalvertHealth has on staff board-certified pediatric hospitalists who specialize in the care of children who are admitted to the hospital. They are fully trained in pediatrics with an emphasis on the care of acutely ill children. They are on hand, seven days a week and are available anywhere in the hospital when a child needs care. They work with families, nursing staff, other doctors and the child's primary care physician to coordinate care.

Meeting Special Needs
Getting ready for a new arrival? CalvertHealth has a number of classes to help you and your family prepare. At the beginning, it's natural to feel overwhelmed. Our parenting programs teach vital skills and provide lots of support. For a complete listing, call 410.535.8233 or visit our website at CalvertHealthMedicine.org/Classes.

Choosing a Doctor

Choosing the right physician is an important decision. It is important to find someone you are completely comfortable with.

A face-to-face meeting is suggested. The doctor should be warm, compassionate and open to your thoughts and feelings, and share similar views. Be sure to ask about office hours, waiting times and which insurance plans are accepted. You will also want to know who is available to answer questions and how phone calls are handled.

Some choose a pediatrician to care for their children and an internist for themselves or their spouse. Others select a family physician, whose extensive training includes all of these areas, for everyone.

Currently, there are thirteen board-certified pediatricians and eighteen family practice doctors on staff at CalvertHealth.

They are on hand, seven days a week and are available anywhere in the hospital when a child need care. Their role is to work with families, nursing staff and other doctors and pediatricians to coordinate the care of each child.
