Questions

WHY DID YOU REBRAND?
Calvert Memorial Hospital began in 1919 as a small community hospital. Nearly a century later, Calvert Health System has evolved into an organization with locations and services throughout the county and beyond.

Rebranding allowed us to create a unified approach – encouraging awareness and understanding of the services we offer. Whenever one of our patients is treated by a CalvertHealth physician, uses a CalvertHealth service or visits a CalvertHealth facility, they will see the CalvertHealth brand and know that it is part of a coordinated system of care.

WHAT DOES THE NEW LOGO REPRESENT?
The new logo is not only an acronym for our new name, CalvertHealth, it is also representative of the relationship, or “connection,” we desire to have with our community. The green and blue are a nod to Calvert County’s heritage, representing the land and the sea. The teal is symbolic of the organization’s legacy color.

DID YOU LEGALLY CHANGE YOUR NAME?
Yes and No.

The legal name for Calvert Health System, Inc., our parent company, did not change, but it will be referred to as CalvertHealth for marketing and promotional purposes. Other entities - which are known in the public - legally changed names effective September 14, 2017. Those are:

  • Calvert Memorial Hospital is now CalvertHealth Medical Center
  • Calvert Physician Associates is now CalvertHealth Medical Group
  • Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation is now CalvertHealth Foundation
  • Calvert Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is now CalvertHealth Auxiliary, Inc.

WHY IS CALVERTHEALTH ONE WORD?
CalvertHealth is one word because neither of the words “Calvert” nor “Health” could be trademarked individually. CalvertHealth® is a registered trademark of the organization.

What We Believe

What We Believe

We stand for community. For families and neighbors, for reaching out and being there when it counts.

We believe in moving more and eating right, in taking the stairs and exploring new paths. We celebrate fevers going down and babies growing up. We believe in the power of possibility and embrace opportunities for change through innovation.

We hold dear the traditions of watermen and farmers and we never forget where we came from. We come to work each day with a dedicated spirit of service and a drive to make a difference in every life we touch.

We are CalvertHealth and we stand for health, for care and for doing our best every day.

Building on a Century of Care

Building on a
Century of
Care

The history of CalvertHealth began in a two-story, frame building in 1919. Over time, as the county grew, so did the hospital – upgrading technology, improving facilities and expanding services. From these humble beginnings, it has transformed into a top regional healthcare provider, widely respected as a leader of innovative medicine among community hospitals.

Today, the health system includes the medical center in Prince Frederick along with an employed physician network, a diagnostic imaging center, urgent care facilities throughout the county and more. It is the largest private employer in Calvert County with close to 1,400 employees.

A lot has changed since CalvertHealth first opened its doors. There were less than 11,000 people living in the county then. Now, more than 91,000 call Calvert County their home. And that growth is expected to continue in the coming decades, especially among older residents. A total of 179 patients were cared for at the hospital in 1920 – now we serve approximately 420 patients every day.

There have been other changes, too. Our medical staff has grown to almost 350 providers, offering more than 45 specialties. Their outstanding care is enhanced by clinical alliances with metropolitan medical centers that bring the region’s top experts here to treat local residents close to home.

More recent advances, like the state-of-the art diagnostic imaging and the new, integrated information system completed in 2016, make it possible to provide even better care for you. In the fall of 2016, our Mobile Health Center took its first trip – traveling to underserved areas of our county – to bring local residents essential primary care and preventive services. Most recently, CalvertHealth added Urology and Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery practices to meet community needs and affiliated with Duke Health to provide the most advance cancer care and treatment available.
