Interventional Radiology (IR) is a subspecialty of radiology in which board-certified physicians perform minimally invasive procedures using real-time imaging guidance.

These procedures are typically performed through a small needle puncture or tiny incision rather than a large surgical cut. As a result, patients often experience less pain, lower risk of complications, shorter recovery times, and, in many cases, can avoid traditional open surgery or an overnight hospital stay. Many IR treatments are completed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to recover comfortably at home.

At CalvertHealth, our board certified interventional radiologists offer a full range of image-guided procedures that can treat a variety of conditions, frequently providing effective alternatives to more invasive surgical options.

Common Procedures may include:

  • Angiography
  • Kyphoplasty
  • Vertoplasty
  • Implanted Ports, Tunneled/ Non-Tunneled Central Lines, and PICC Lines
  • Nephrostomy Tubes
  • Dialysis Catheters
  • Uterine Fibroid Embolizations
  • Drainages
  • Biopsies
  • Blood Clot Filters
  • Foreign Body Extraction
  • Thrombolytics
  • Radiologically Implanted Tubes
