Education & Training
Fellowship-trained podiatric foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Fahad U. Rahman brings advanced training and extensive clinical experience in all areas of foot and ankle surgery, minimally invasive techniques and complex trauma to his new role at CalvertHealth Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Patient education is at the core of his philosophy of care. “I believe listening to the patient is one of the most important parts of the examination,” said Dr. Rahman. “Every patient has different concerns, goals and expectations, and understanding those is essential to developing the right treatment plan.”
He went on to add, “I want my patients to understand their condition, why it may be causing their symptoms, and the reasoning behind the treatment options we discuss. Whether we choose a nonsurgical treatment or proceed with surgery, I think patients should understand not only what we are doing, but why we are doing it.”
Dr. Rahman said his interest in the field of ankle and foot surgery began after suffering an ankle injury in college. “It was then that I became drawn to the opportunity to make a difference in a patient’s mobility and quality of life.”
Dr. Rahman earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Temple University School of Medicine and completed a three-year podiatric medicine and surgery residency with reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery at HCA Florida Westside Hospital in South Florida, where he served as Chief Resident.
He went on to pursue advanced fellowship training in reconstructive and ankle surgery through HCA Florida Westside, with clinical training at Holy Cross Orthopedic Institute and Broward Health Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. His fellowship provided extensive exposure to complex foot and ankle reconstruction, total ankle replacement, revision surgery and trauma.
He grew up in Richmond, VA, and enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time with his family and playing basketball.
