Prince Frederick, MD – CalvertHealth Medical Center has earned a series of recent national and state recognitions for the quality and safety of care provided to patients across multiple specialties, including stroke care, bariatric surgery, respiratory care, heart failure and orthopedics.
The latest honors include the American Heart Association’s Gold Plus Achievement Award for stroke care for the 15th consecutive year, re-recertification as a Primary Stroke Center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS), designation as a Blue Distinction® Center for Bariatric Surgery and recognition by U.S. News & World Report as a High Performing Hospital in four categories: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Pneumonia, Heart Failure and Hip Fracture.
“These recognitions are a reflection of the dedication, expertise and teamwork of our physicians, nurses and staff who are committed to providing exceptional care every day,” said Jeremy Bradford, MBA, President and CEO of CalvertHealth. “While we are proud of each individual achievement, what is especially meaningful is that these are not isolated accomplishments. They are the latest in a continued stream of recognition that reflects the consistency of the care our teams provide and our ongoing commitment to quality and better outcomes for our patients.”
CalvertHealth has earned the American Heart Association’s Gold Plus Achievement Award for outstanding stroke care for the 15th consecutive year, demonstrating its sustained commitment to following evidence-based treatment guidelines and improving outcomes for stroke patients. The hospital also earned the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite designation, which recognizes hospitals that provide clot-busting medication to eligible
stroke patients within 60 minutes for at least 85% of applicable cases. Timely treatment is critical in stroke care, as faster intervention can help reduce disability and improve outcomes. Further reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to stroke care, CalvertHealth was recently re-recertified as a Primary Stroke Center by MIEMSS, a designation that recognizes hospitals meeting established standards for the evaluation and treatment of stroke patients.
CalvertHealth was also recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. The designation recognizes healthcare facilities that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality, safe and cost-effective specialty care. The Blue Distinction Centers for Bariatric Surgery program evaluates hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers based on quality, experience and value, and requires participating sites to be accredited through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).
Adding to the hospital’s recent recognition, U.S. News & World Report named CalvertHealth a High Performing Hospital for COPD, Pneumonia, Heart Failure and Hip Fracture. U.S. News & World Report evaluates hospitals using objective measures of quality, including patient outcomes, risk-adjusted mortality, complications and successful discharge, among other factors. Recognition across four conditions represents the breadth of clinical expertise available to patients at CalvertHealth, spanning respiratory, cardiovascular and orthopedic care.
The latest honors add to a growing list of achievements earned by CalvertHealth in recent years, including an "A" from the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for our commitment to patient safety in 2026 and a 5-star rating for quality from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in 2025 and 2026. These achievements reinforce the organization’s commitment to maintaining high standards, advancing clinical practice and providing patients with high-quality care in their community. For the teams behind each recognition, however, the greatest measure of success remains the patients and families they serve each day.
“Every award represents people—our patients who place their trust in us and the team members who work tirelessly to care for them,” said Bradford. “These recognitions give us an opportunity to celebrate that work while continuing to look ahead and find ways to make an already strong organization even better.”
